Hi David,

I did build kmod-alsa-1.0.21 but it caused a kernel panic on RHEL/CentOS 
5. Seems I wasn't the only one, and I believe ATrpms had the same issue too:

I was only able to test the intel_hda module so no idea whether other 
modules were working or not, but given the widespread use of intel_hda 
and, due to weak-linking against all kernels installed on the system, I 
felt it best to pull it from the elrepo-testing repo immediately.

I still have the packages here if you'd like to have a play at your own 
risk, although compiling alsa from source against a sacrificial kernel 
would answer your question as to whether 1.0.21 fixes your issue or not.
