[elrepo-devel] Consultation: RHEL7 and a Kernel-ml Package Set

Now that the release candidate for RHEL7 has been made available, we
see that its kernel will be based on the linux-3.10.0 sources. I am
making an assumption that will not change between the RC and GA
versions of the OS.

The ELRepo Project currently provides the following kernel series:

* For EL5 -- kernel-lt-3.2.X-1.el5.elrepo -- 32-bit (NONPAE & PAE) and 64-bit.
* For EL6 -- kernel-lt-3.10.X-1.el6.elrepo -- 32 bit (NONPAE & PAE) and 64-bit
* For EL6 -- kernel-ml-3.14.X-1.el6.elrepo -- 32 bit (NONPAE & PAE) and 64-bit

As we know, RHEL7 will be only available as a 64-bit OS. There has
been a proposal within the CentOS Project to also build a 32-bit
release. Whether that comes to fruition, only time will tell.

Thoughts are now occurring regarding a kernel-ml package set for EL7.

My current plan is to only develop a 64-bit kernel-ml package set but
leave sufficient code in place to allow a 32-bit set to be built, if
requested.

The ELRepo Project would now like to know its users' views for an EL7
kernel-ml package set. Please make use of this thread as a means of
discussion. Your input will be appreciated.

Thank you,

The ELRepo Team.
