Another follow up for the record.

The configs(however many) in kernel-mt are the ones the configs in
kernel-lt are find.

Regarding those and the code changes.
The elrepo 3.10X kernel modules do work with the trackpad "as is" on my
Acer Chromebooks.

The elrepo kernel modules related from 3.17 do not work so far as I've
tested them. The problems are known upstream.

We likely may need more patches after the module inclusion changes, to
actually get functionality.
