Phil,
Thank you. Your logic is sound. I'm currently looking for a hardware RAID that has a consistent support of Linux - failing that - I'll probably go with a software RAID. I was unaware of El Repo until I was searching for a solution to my current problem -- it's good work - thank you to you and all.
Will

Hi Will,
Simple answer - possibly, but I would advise against it. I'll try to
explain:
I don't know too much about this controller. I've just checked HP's website and they don't appear to offer a driver for RHEL7 (they do support RHEL6 though to the current RHEL6u6 release).
Suppose we are able to build a driver for you for RHEL7.1. What happens when 7.2 or 7.3 is released, and the driver won't build against that kernel because RH have changed an ABI the driver uses? You are left with a system that you can't update, and is unsupported.
For this reason I would advice one of two choices:
1. If you absolutely must use your RAID controller, install RHEL6 which is supported by HP and has over 5 years of supported life remaining from RH.
2. If you must install RHEL7, configure the controller to AHCI mode and use software RAID.
IMHO either of the options above are preferable to the risk of having an unsupported system at some point down the road.
Phil
