Hi Olaf,
Towards the bottom of the Announcement is a note --
NOTE: Due to the appearance of a bug in el5.5, these updated kmod-nvidia
packages will pull in an updated module-init-tools package containing a
fix as a dependency for el5.5 users. If you are using yum priorities
then you will need to allow elrepo to replace core OS/Updates files for
the purpose of this update.
-- and what you are reporting is a result of not allowing the second
sentence of that note to occur.
Please use:
yum --disablerepo \* --enablerepo elrepo update kmod-nvidia
