kmod-nvidia needs an updated module-init-tools package as a dependency 
(also in elrepo), but as this *replaces* a package from Base/Updates, 
you will need to adjust your yum priorities settings to allow that to 
happen.

The other way to work around this is to temporarily disable all other repos:

yum --disablerepo=\* --enablerepo=elrepo update kmod-nvidia

which should do the trick.
