NVIDIA have reported that some users are suffering graphical corruption,
performance degradation and crashes with this update on GeForce 6 and 7
series as well as GeForce 8800GTX and first-gen 8800GTS cards.

See here for more information:

I haven't been able to replicate any performance degradation issues with
kmod-nvidia-295.40-1 on either RHEL-5 or RHEL-6 running glxgears with a
7600GS card, FPS rates are as usual for me. As it's only a test rig I
haven't run any other tests or long-term usage to stress the system.

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation G73 [GeForce 7600
GS] (rev a1)

Is anyone else experiencing problems or issues with this release (versus
the previous release) ?
