look at /var/log/messages, lines like this are present?
kernel: NVRM: The NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 with AGP8X GPU installed in
this system is
kernel: NVRM: supported through the NVIDIA 96.43.xx Legacy drivers.
Please
kernel: NVRM: visit http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html for more
kernel: NVRM: information. The 295.20 NVIDIA driver will ignore
kernel: NVRM: this GPU. Continuing probe...
kernel: NVRM: No NVIDIA graphics adapter found!
I have idea make driver kmod-nvidia96 for such "old" hardware,
but not have many free time right now...
may be people from elrepo project can build kmod-nvidia96
with NVIDIA 96.43.xx Legacy drivers for "old" nVidia hardware?
