Phil,

Thank you for your response.

I have decided to Down-grade Xorg to the previous version in el6.3 based on
your recommendation.

I verified that kmod-fglrx-12.4 drivers are installed on the system.

When I list the configuration with lspci -k it still looks like the drives
that are part of the standard distribution are being used.

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI]
RV630 PRO [Radeon HD 2600 PRO] (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
Subsystem: Hightech Information System Ltd. Device 2002
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 24
	Memory at c0000000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=256M]
	Memory at fea20000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64K]
	I/O ports at e000 [size=256]
Expansion ROM at fea00000 [disabled] [size=128K]
Capabilities: [50] Power Management version 3
Capabilities: [58] Express Legacy Endpoint, MSI 00
	Capabilities: [a0] MSI: Enable- Count=1/1 Maskable- 64bit+
	Capabilities: [100] Vendor Specific Information: ID=0001 Rev=1
Len=010
<?>
	Kernel modules: radeon

When if do a $ xrandr the system displays:

Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1360 x 768, maximum 1360 x 1360
DVI-1 connected 1360x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 0mm
x
0mm
   1360x768 60.0*
   1280x800 59.8
   1280x768 59.9
   1024x768 60.0
   800x600 60.3
   848x480 60.0
   640x480 59.9
DVI-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)

I checked the Xorg.0.log file and it looks like there wasn't any errors, but
does not identify the driver that is being used.

HOW do I validate that the system is using the kmod-fglrx-12.4 drivers?
Do I need to do something special to force the system to use the
kmod-fglrx-12.4 drivers in addition the the yum install?

Thanks for the help.
Pierce

Hi Pierce,

Unfortunately your hardware is currently unsupported by AMD on el-6.4

If I may explain, two things transpired against you around the time of the
6.4 release. Firstly, the el6.4 release used a newer version of Xorg
(version 1.13). Around the same time, AMD dropped support for older HD
series cards (specifically HD 2000/3000/4000 series cards) which are now
only supported by their legacy driver and this legacy driver does not have
support for the latest version of Xorg in the el6.4 release.

At this time you have two rather limited options:

1. Don't use the proprietary AMD drivers - use the inbuilt kernel drivers
which offer only limited 3D support.

2. If you need the 3D features / support of the proprietary drivers then use
either the kmod-fglrx-12.4 driver in the main repository OR the
kmod-fglrx-legacy-13.1 in the testing repository AND you will need to
downgrade Xorg to the last version that shipped with el6.3.

6 months on there is no sign of AMD backporting support for newer versions
of Xorg into their legacy drivers for older HD 2000/3000/4000 series
hardware. Ultimately it appears AMD would like you to purchase newer
hardware.

Our fglrx page details some of the above here:

Sorry I can't be of more help,

Phil
