Hmm, I neglected to mention that doing that, twice, didn't fix the 
problem.... I thought I had, but going back over my message it's 
apparent that I didn't.  Sorry for my omission.  Here's the relevant 
lines from the yum log for the transactions in question:

Updated to CentOS 6.4 via CentOS-CR, rebooted, and it's still working fine.

So, no, the replace plugin isn't emulating an update here.  And there 
were some lags there, since I left the site while the kmod was doing its 
thing on 3/2.... Incidentally, and it's probably something you can't 
control, the output line telling that this might take a while doesn't 
get output until it's done..... minor thing....

Anyway, something for the archives if anyone else tries going the yum 
replace route.
