[elrepo] NVIDIA short-lived versus long-lived branch

Hi all,

The issue of NVIDIA short-lived versus long-lived branch releases has
been raised a couple of times so I thought we should have a discussion
about it and come up with a clear policy as to how we should handle
these releases. For example:

http://elrepo.org/bugs/view.php?id=413

I'm not overly keen on packaging both branches for the sake of it, so if
you have a clear case for wanting one over the other lets hear it now
and discuss that.

Given this is Enterprise Linux, and stability is our mantra, I would
propose that in future we stick with the long-lived branch in the main
elrepo repository. If for any reason we are required to release a
short-lived branch then that shall be released to the testing
repository, thus not automatically causing updates to those using the
long-lived branch in the main repository.

So to summarise:

elrepo: NVIDIA long-lived branch

elrepo-testing: NVIDIA short-lived branch (only if requested)

So lets have a discussion and agree on a strategy going forward.

Phil
