Further to this, the driver will also require firmware to be installed:

You will need to manually download
http://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-firmware.git/tree/rtlwifi/rtl8723befw.bin
and place it in the /lib/firmware/rtlwifi/ directory (you'll need to
create this directory).
