Please verify first that
= the new initramfs was generated when you installed the package
= the new initramfs is correctly referenced from grub's config

If everything is OK, I'd like to see the full output that you see at 
boot time (maybe take a picture of the screen and use an image pastebin 
for it ), together with the output of lspci and ls /boot
