[elrepo] Nvidia 340.xx driver question

Hi all!

I'm trying to switch out my nvidia card for a newer (but not NEW) one,
but one which Nvidia says requires the same driver (so it's not a bleeding
edge update).

SOME BACKGROUND/DETAILS:
(or if you don't wanna read this stuff, just skip to THE POINT below...):
On the assumption that I could just swap out the hardware and it would
work, as if by magic, I did just that, and then on reboot had troubles:

I'm using Centos-6.<latest> on a 6-core AMD processor.

I got past the grub prompt and a moment later it hung with a message
about probing EDD and use "edd=off" to disable it. I waited a minute or
two and nothing happened. (I googled around a bit and found one message
saying that that message and hang could mean an unexpected interrupt
occurred--which I could imagine might mess up the esata connection to
my external RAID storage box.)

Messed around a bit, eventually rebooting by editing the grub commandline
on the fly and adding edd=off to the end. that booted, but then my
external RAID storage box was hosed and wouldn't successfully mount.
(so I put the old card back in and can now there is no such error on
boot, and I can access the RAID box, though it reports it's very busy
doing something, possibly rebuilding the RAID...)

THE POINT:
So, I'm wondering if I need to do something to force the nvidia driver
to be rebuilt, since the "new" card is a different chipset? And if so,
how? I'm guessing I could boot to single-user mode and do:

yum erase kmod-nvidia nvidia-x11-drv.x86_64 nvidia-x11-drv-32bit.x86_64
yum --enablerepo=elrepo-testing install kmod-nvidia-340xx nvidia-x11-drv.x86_64 nvidia-x11-drv-32bit.x86_64

Advice will be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Fred
