My hardware needs the fglrx drivers so I do not know, I have not actually installed them.  But when I did look, their installation procedure was:
1. download  huge tarball
2.  unpack huge tarball, ending up with a large number of rpm packages plus one shell script
3. run said (sad also) shell script which basically installs the rpms plus some dependencies . This is the step where I ran away crying so I have no idea about the continuation.
