[elrepo] The kernel-lt Package Set and RHEL6 - Going Forwards.

For a number of years, the kernel-lt package set for EL6 has been
based on the linux-3.10.X long term support branch. I recently checked
the package change-log and noted the following entries --

* Sun Nov 05 2017 Alan Bartlett <ajb at elrepo.org> - 3.10.108-1
- Updated with the 3.10.108 source tarball.
- [https://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v3.x/ChangeLog-3.10.108]

* Tue Jun 27 2017 Alan Bartlett <ajb at elrepo.org> - 3.10.107-1
- Updated with the 3.10.107 source tarball.

<snip>

* Sun Jul 14 2013 Alan Bartlett <ajb at elrepo.org> - 3.10.1-1
- Updated with the 3.10.1 source tarball.
- [https://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v3.x/ChangeLog-3.10.1]

* Mon Jul 01 2013 Alan Bartlett <ajb at elrepo.org> - 3.10.0-1
- Updated with the 3.10 source tarball.

Upstream, at kernel.org, the linux-3.10.X long term support branch has
now been declared end of life.

Within the ELRepo Project, we have discussed potential candidates to
replace the linux-3.10.X sources. RHEL6 itself will transition to an
end of life state in 2020 and so, ideally, we would like to choose a
long term support branch that would remain available until that time.
Of the possible options, one candidate stands out . . . the
linux-4.4.X long term support branch.

I am currently working with the configuration files (plural, as there
are 64-bit, PAE 32-bit and NONPAE 32-bit kernel-lt files in the set)
with a view to making the next update of the package to be based on
the linux-4.4.X sources. Before that release occurs, I would like to
read any comments, opinions or suggestions from those who may have
cause to use the package set.

Just to re-iterate: This only concerns the ELRepo Project's kernel-lt
package set built for RHEL6 and the other prominent clones of that
operating system.

Alan.
