>From the testing we have performed it appears that the acpid-2 is
usable with the EL6 distribution kernel-2.6.32-X.Y.Z.el6.x86_64

However, that said, the updated acpid-2 package [5] should not be
deployed by those who are not regularly using either of the kernel-lt
or kernel-ml package sets. Just because the version number is greater
than that of the distribution acpid-1 package does not make our
package "better" for use with the distribution kernel.

For completeness, I shall mention that at a personal level both my
RHEL-6 and RHEL-7 systems are used without any installed acpid
package.
