That was the issue. For some reason you had a 
/boot/initramfs-3.10.0-693.el7.x86_64.img file.

The weak-modules script calls dracut on any initramfs image file that is 
present, hence the behaviour on your system.

How /boot/initramfs-3.10.0-693.el7.x86_64.img got onto / remained on 
your system when the corresponding kernel was not installed, I can't answer.

Anyway, glad it's resolved.
