Hi Alastair,
The kernel-lt package for el6 is simply a convenient packaging of the
upstream LTS kernel from kernel.org for RHEL/CentOS. Elrepo do not
modify or otherwise change the upstream sources in any way.
So the simple answer is you'd have to ask upstream. In reality, I very
much doubt the upstream kernel developers are providing anything more
that critical bug fixes to a kernel that is nearly 4 years old now.
If you need newer (or updated) hardware support, you are almost
certainly going to require a newer kernel.
Does the el6 distribution kernel not provide support as Red Hat will
often backport support for newer hardware into the distribution kernel?
You may find the el6 distribution kernel actually contains better
hardware support than the now aging kernel-lt offering.
Phil
