Hi,

I've been using centos6.2 for about 6 months now and have been running it
ok on a Sony Vaio. I recently got my hands on a new laptop and installed
centos6.2 on there. It's a relatively new machine (Samsung NP700) so I
anticipated there might be a few compatibility issues. The main issue was
that my wireless card was not recognised. After a fair bit of researching,
I came across the kmod-compat-wireless fix.

I installed this (yum install...) and it completed with some errors, but I
now have wireless connectivity. My question is I'm not sure if should be
worried about the warnings I got after installing kmod-compat? Afterall, I
now have wireless...
Done.

Installed:

kmod-compat-wireless.x86_64 0:3.3-2.n.el6.elrepo*

I know there are later versions (3.5-rc3xxx) of kmod-compat-wireless from
linuxwireless.org but the procedure for using those seems a little complex
- I'm still relatively new to linux :-)

Can these warnings be safely ignored or should I be taking more active
steps to resolve them?

Thanks,

Hi John,

Quick answer - yes, you can safely ignore those warnings. They relate to the now unused distro drivers which kmod-compat-wireless has just replaced.

For information, you will now likely see those warnings every time you update your kernel, but again it is OK to just ignore them.

Hope that helps,

Phil
