I did a yum install kmod-e1000e on my Vbox hosted CentOS 7 which was
using the distro e1000e module for its network connection. The package
installs OK and modinfo after the reboot says it's using the ELRepo copy
Mine is kmod-e1000e-3.8.4-4.el7_9.elrepo.x86_64 which is not the same
version as yours. Try a yum update after installing the elrepo-release
package - which you need to do anyway so that you get future updates to
allow it to run with future kernels that break the stable KABI.
