Hi Dan,
Running modinfo for the module will show you the path of the driver
that's currently being used. Can you show the output from:
modinfo 8192cu
You don't need to remove the original kernel driver, the new driver from
Alan's kmod package should override it but the modinfo output above will
confirm that.
