Thanks, Dag.  As I tried to explain, I don't believe the processor on my 
thinkpad x31 will support kvm, because it lacks the vmx flag.  Hence the 
resort to kqemu, which I realize is no longer supported.  I'm not 
actually very concerned about virtualization on this machine and the 
only reason I reported the error I encountered was that it didn't look 
specific to kqemu.  Akemi Yagi's message suggests that I guessed right 
on that.
