Phil,
Thanks again man!
So I snagged and installed the following:
> kmod-compat-wireless-3.5-3.el6.elrepo.x86_64.rpm
> You can report back either here or to the bug tracker - I don't mind which.
Unfortunately it isn't working yet, here's where I'm at (please let me
know if I missed anything).
I believe the following directory structure was created with the install:
/lib/modules/2.6.32-279.2.1.el6.x86_64/weak-updates/compat-wireless/
I didn't look in this location before, so I can't be sure. I can
uninstall to verify if need be. There are a number of relevant .ko files
there (symlinked to
/lib/modules/2.6.32-279.el6.x86_64/extra/compat-wireless/).
I'm also not seeing anything for bcma in the following locations (though
I'm not sure it matters):
/lib/modules/2.6.32-279.2.1.el6.x86_64/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/
/lib/modules/2.6.32-279.2.1.el6.x86_64/kernel/net/wireles
I'm not seeing anything in "/lib/firmware/" named bcma, wondering if
this is part of the problem (I thought I had a dir there before during
one of my troubleshooting steps, but I honestly can't recall). Should I
be ripping this out of the file I download from Broadcom's site or doing
something like what's mentioned here with the src.rpm
http://elrepo.org/tiki/wl-kmod?
iwconfig shows the following:

vmnet1 no wireless extensions.
vmnet8 no wireless extensions.
