OK Nick, it sounds like you didn't install the yum config file for 
elrepo so yum won't find the updates for you. If you want to "install" 
elrepo you can do (you don't have to if you don't want to):

rpm -Uvh http://elrepo.org/elrepo-release-6-4.el6.elrepo.noarch.rpm

then the yum update command above should work.

Otherwise, you can just manually grab the updated package:

http://elrepo.org/linux/testing/el6/x86_64/RPMS/kmod-compat-wireless-3.5.1-1.sn.el6.elrepo.x86_64.rpm

and install it with rpm -Uvh ...
