Announcing the test release of updated packages, kmod-flashcache and
flashcache-utils, into the EL6 elrepo-testing repository:
http://elrepo.org/tiki/kmod-flashcache
http://elrepo.org/tiki/flashcache-utils
The kmod-flashcache package provides the flashcache kernel module.
Flashcache is a write back block cache Linux kernel module and was
built primarily as a block cache for InnoDB but is general purpose and
can be used by other applications as well. Flashcache supports
writeback, writethrough and writearound caching modes. This package is
kABI compatible with all kernels from EL6.2 (kernel-2.6.32-220.el6).
It is built to depend upon the specific ABI provided by a range of
releases of the same variant of the Linux kernel and not on any one
specific build.
The flashcache-utils package contains utility packages for flashcache.
It includes flashcache_create, flashcache_load and lashcache_destroy.
It is expected that the majority of users can use these utilities
instead of dmsetup.
More details on flashcache can be found here:
https://github.com/facebook/flashcache
We'd like to thank Maurits van de Lande for providing a patch that
adds support for write through caching.
The following files are currently syncing to the mirrors:
x86:
kmod-flashcache-0.0-3.el6.elrepo.i686.rpm
flashcache-utils-0.0-4.el6.elrepo.i686.rpm
x86_64:
kmod-flashcache-0.0-3.el6.elrepo.x86_64.rpm
flashcache-utils-0.0-4.el6.elrepo.x86_64.rpm
src:
flashcache-kmod-0.0-3.el6.elrepo.src.rpm
flashcache-utils-0.0-4.el6.elrepo.src.rpm
End-user testing and subsequent feedback will speed the eventual
promotion of these packages from elrepo-testing to the main
repository.
Known issues:
flashcache may not work on x86. The 32-bit version was provided for
testing purposes. Unless there is positive/success report, the
packages will be removed when they get promoted to the main
repository.
Thank you and Happy Holidays!
The ELRepo Team.
