[elrepo] Failure to install kmod-nvidia on CentOS 7.4 (kernel symbol(?) requirements wrong)

Unfortunately updating is no option for us. We use special hardware
where the drivers are only supported up to CentOS 7.4. Normally the
support for these devices lags one or two releases behind.
I have tried all three kmod-nvidia versions available in the ELRepo
repository and the installation doesn't work with any of these.
