I got a kernel panic testing kmod-alsa-1.0.21.2.el5.elrepo.i686 on an
x86 laptop. The system wouldn't boot, any kernel, so keep that in mind
when testing. Booting from a rescue CD and deleting the override conf
file /etc/depmod.d/alsa.conf should allow any kernel other than -164.el5
to boot then just uninstall the package.
Googling did hint at kernel panics with alsa 1.0.21 and RHEL 5 so I
wonder if this is a wider issue?
If someone else can confirm the kernel panic, maybe on x86_64, then
perhaps we can go back to the drawing board and see if a simple source
install causes the same issues so as to eliminate our packaging
procedure as the cause.
I'll leave these packages in testing for the moment, but treat with
caution and be prepared to rescue the system from alternative boot media
if needed.
