Announcing the release of an updated kmod-atl1e package in the
elrepo-testing repository:
http://elrepo.org/tiki/kmod-atl1e
This package provides an updated atl1e driver, version 1.0.0.11, and
is kABI compatible with all kernels from 5.0 (kernel-2.6.18-8.el5)
upwards.
It is built to depend upon the specific ABI provided by a range of
releases of the same variant of the Linux kernel and not on any one
specific build.
Important information for users of the current atl1c and atl1e packages.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ELRepo currently provides an atl1c package, version 1.0.0.11, and an
atl1e package, version 1.0.1.0, both of which are available from the
main repository. The atl1c package supports more devices than the
atl1e package. The former package is only kABI compatible with kernels
>= 2.6.18-164.el5 (EL 5.4 & upwards) whilst the latter package is kABI
compatible with all kernels >= 2.6.18-8.el5 (EL 5.0 & upwards).
Following an extended period of investigation, the sources are
effectively merged to give one kernel independent, kABI tracking kmod
package that is compatible with all kernels >= 2.6.18-8.el5 (EL 5.0 &
upwards) supporting the six devices of the current atl1c package.
Unfortunately to be consistent with the upstream vendor of the source
code, the new package has to be released as the atl1e, with a version
number of 1.0.0.11
Existing users of the current atl1c and alt1e packages (available from
the main repository) who are satisfied with the operation / number of
devices supported by each of those packages DO NOT need to take any
further action.
Users of the current atl1c package who wish to convert to / test the
new atl1e package should:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(1) download the correct architecture and type of the package from
http://elrepo.org/linux/testing/el5/ (use of wget is advised)
(2) stop the network service
(3) unload the current atl1c driver module (modprobe -r atl1c)
(4) install the kmod-atl1e package
(5) edit all alias lines in the /etc/modprobe.conf file to reference
the atl1e driver and not the atl1c driver
(6) start the network service
Users of the current atl1e package who wish to convert to / test the
new atl1e package should:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(1) download the correct architecture and type of the package from
http://elrepo.org/linux/testing/el5/ (use of wget is advised)
(2) stop the network service
(3) unload the current atl1e driver module (modprobe -r atl1e)
(4) install the new kmod-atl1e package (rpm -Uvh --oldpackage kmod-atl1e-*.rpm)
(5) start the network service
Testing and end-user feedback will be appreciated.
Assuming that no adverse issues are discovered, both of the current
atl1c & atl1e packages will be deprecated from the main repository and
will be replaced by the new atl1e package from the testing repository.
Thank you,
The ELRepo Team.
