Indeed, autodetect works mostly fine with the stock drivers. However
this does not seem to be ( or was not.. ) the case for the proprietary
driver. We use this approach ( backup existing config, if any, create
new config via amdconfig --initial ; restore initial config at uninstall
time ) since ages ans so far no one complained. The only issue I've seen
came with the case of multiple monitors ( as is the case in the company
I work for ): generally people are not 100% happy with the default
config that gets created and we need to adjust it ( swap monitors for
instance ) via amdcccle
Can you please test the new package ( 15.9-2 ) on as many systems as you
can afford ? The other tester faced an odd situation, the file
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-fglrx.conf is ignored, the stock glx.so gets
loaded and the server segfaults:
